Our Story

Our Story - told by Aaron

The beginning of our story is apparently a comedy of errors and chance meetings that never occurred, dating all the way back to our time in Atlanta “together” from 2001 – 2003. If you’ve ever read or seen Tom Stoppard’s play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, it’s sort of like that but without the Shakespearean murder and tragedy. In the 7 seven years we’ve been together there have been a lot of, “wait you were at such and such in Atlanta too?” However, knowing that God's timing is perfect...

Our origin story culminates with being locked in a room with each other and some of our mutual friends on a “set-up” date for 2 hours trying to answer the clues that would allow our party to “Break-out!” It is alleged that Aaron did not speak for the entire 2 hours. Later that evening, after the culmination of our efforts failed to illicit the escape, they had all been planning, Anne found herself sitting across a restaurant table from the dashingly handsome boring guy who didn’t talk for 2 hours. Sources close to the situation report that upon Anne’s mentioning of a scant liking of a certain Wilco song that was playing, which neither can remember, Aaron hasn’t stopped talking since.

Nothing could have prepared either of them, or any of the rest of you reading this, for what would transpire six months later when Anne fell ill and ended up in an induced coma for almost two weeks. Many of you got to know Aaron, and his quirky sense of humor, through his updates on “Caring Bridge.” “The situation was so dire and so unbelievable that the only way I could see any of us getting through it was to find the humor in the little bits wherever you could,” Aaron explains. Unsure if Anne (a.k.a. Wonder Woman) would even recognize or remember who he was, Aaron stayed by her side doing what he could to provide the family some comedy relief, solace, and pretty much anything else he could think of to help Sally, Lamar, and Sarah through this dark time.

Thankfully, as a result of all of your thoughts and prayers, Anne awoke one morning. Furious at being placed in a hypothermic protocol, Anne doesn’t like being cold, she ripped out all her breathing apparatus and demanded the doctors tell her what had happened. The family...and Aaron, were called to the hospital. The moment of truth had arrived, “Well guys, I just want you to know, this was about the best worst time of my life. No matter what happens in the next five minutes, I want you guys to know you’ll always have a place in my heart,” Aaron recalls saying to Lamar, Sally and Sarah.

Aaron waited patiently in the waiting room until Sally re-appeared a few minutes later to take him back to see Anne. Hoarse from the vocal cord trauma sustained earlier Anne said, “Hey Boo, did you really stay here this entire time with my family?” Relieved that she remembered who he was, Aaron replied, “Yeah, I mean, I wasn’t going to leave you, I love you.” “Wait did you just say I love you?” she asked.

And, 7 years later, here we are!
